Are you ready to start saving money and the environment?

Besides installing a Solar Energy Generation System

here are a few more things you can do:

A Bit Radical A Bit More Radical Feral Hippie Radical!
In Summer. Make your air-conditioning a few degrees warmer. Insulate house. Turn your air-conditioning off. Install ceiling fans to circulate the air. Insulate house. No air-conditioner. Insulate house. Plant deciduous trees (preferably fruit & nut trees) to the north and west of the house so they provide shade to the house in the summer. Make sure trees don’t shade solar panels on roof. Open windows and doors that are opposite each other to create a cooling cross draft. Design for solar passive.
In Winter. Make your reverse cycle air-conditioner heater a few degrees cooler. Insulate house. Eradicate use of portable electric heaters. No air-conditioner/heater (unless you can power it from the sun). Install highly efficient insulation. Put on a woolen jumper or two and acclimatise. Deciduous trees planted to the north and west of the house let the sun in to warm those rooms in winter. Design for solar passive. Garden ponds reflect light through the windows. Brick walls and pavers hold heat – as does water in ponds and tanks. At night draw curtains and make sure pelmuts are installed above the window to keep the cold from coming through. If you use wood for heating plant five trees for every tree you use. Slow combustion is best using properly cured (dried) wood.
Turn off appliances at the wall. Use appliances less. Buy reliable appliances that don’t break after a few uses. This will save pollution and resources from manufacturing. Do you really need those appliances? For example, why buy a bread-maker when you have an oven? The embodied energy in manufacturing the bread-maker surely is worse for the environment than the extra electricity used for the oven which is multi purpose. Apply this thinking to all your appliances and downsize on them.
Limit use of the dryer. Use the sun to dry your clothes. Get rid of the drier. Use the sun to dry your clothes or on a clothes horse indoors when raining. Retrofit the laundry ceiling or similar space into a drying area where the heat from the house rises into it to dry the clothes hanging on a rack that can be raised and lowered. Circulate heat around the house through vents.
Get an energy efficient fridge. Get an energy efficient fridge. Get rid of the standing fridge. Retrofit a chest freezer with a thermostat to turn it into a highly efficient fridge. Ask your grandmother about preserving and fermenting food the traditional way taking away our reliance on the fridge to keep food.
Turn down the electric hot water thermostat so it doesn’t need to use so much power to keep the tank so hot. Ask your electrician to do this. Convert to another hot water system other than electricity. ¬†Convert to another hot water system other than electricity or gas.
Don’t buy plasma screens. They can use the same amount of power as a family size fridge! Turn off entertainment system when not in use. Limit one TV to the house. Better still – do you really need to watch the rubbish that’s on it! Eliminate it altogether and reclaim your passion through imagination, creativity and spontaneity.
Buy Green energy. Get battery storage with grid back up and add Reposit Power. Get battery storage with grid back up and add Reposit Power. Lobby for more renewable energy. Get involved in community owned energy (local wind, solar, etc)
Making tea >>>>>> Making coffee >>>>>> Fill the kettle with the appropriate amount of water that you need rather than fill it and waste energy boiling water that you won’t use.
